Launch of the African Geo Information Researcher Network (AGIRN) portal
30 October 2006
EIS-AFRICA, a network for the co-operative management of Environmental Information in Africa, has for the past decade been inundated with requests from the
African Geo-information community for a service where high quality research
studies, key note presentations, policies and position papers could be
accessed and discussed.
With this in mind, EIS-AFRICA and The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) of South Africa have designed and developed the African Geo
Information Research Network (AGIRN) web portal (www.agirn.org).
The rationale for the development of the AGIRN portal is to provide access to research papers and studies written by African geo-information experts.
In addition, AGIRN will provide a means of discussion through a widely accessible web-based forum and users will also be encouraged to interact with the website by publishing their own studies.
The AGIRN portal aims at serving not only the geo-information practitioners across the continent but also the many decision makers and planners in Africa.
