Graduate students at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) Space Flight Laboratory (SFL) received first and second place awards for technical papers relating to microspace missions developed by SFL — these awards were bestowed last week during the prestigious Frank J. Redd Student Competition at the 32nd Annual Small Satellite Conference in Logan, Utah.

In his wining paper, Robert Magner described a new software technology that enhances the ability of small Earth Observation (EO) satellites to track fixed targets on the ground with a high degree of availability, either for remote sensing or communications applications, using an on-board star tracker.
