Icelandic volcano sulphur pollution was triple European industry

In September last year the Holuhraun volcanic eruption in Iceland emitted three times as much of pollutant gas as all European industry combined, a recent study has revealed. Volcanic sulphur dioxide traveled more than 2700 km from the source.

Hurricane Joaquin

This composite image from EUMETSAT and NOAA data shows Hurricane Joaquin over the Bahamas on 1 October 2015. The storm caused widespread damage and flooding across the southern islands of the archipelago and later the south east coast of the United States, particularly South Carolina.

LAPAN-A2 FM and APRS satellite launched

28 September 2015

The Indonesian amateur radio society ORARI report that on Monday, 28 September 2015 04:30 hours UT, the LAPAN-A2/ORARI satellite was launched from the Sriharikota Range (SHAR) of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in India. Deployment took place 23 minutes later.

Course Overview:

Remote Sensing for Mediterranean Ecosystems (SplitRS 2016) is an international and interactive event between universities, research institutions and private firms. It considers the state-of-the-art remote sensing technology, sophisticated and comprehensive modelling approaches, data analysis, sophisticated software capabilities – all of which is incorporated in the framework of building the well-designed strategy to protect natural resources and public well-being.

This intensive and advanced, 5-day learning event, presents best insights into most recent techniques learned from top international professors and researchers through hands-on sessions and lectures. Participants will learn about different remote sensing applications using primarily SAR, hyperspectral and LiDAR sensors. Learning about information extraction techniques will be an integral part of the school program in 2016.
