Space radar to assess Europe’s historic sites
05 May 2016
A project is under way to assess the geological hazards facing the 400-plus European monuments and sites on the Unesco World Heritage List.
Data from radar satellites will be used to map the ground movements that might threaten these historic places.
Known as Prothego, the initiative will run for two years.
The aim is to produce a monitoring "toolkit" that the UN and national authorities can employ in the future management of WHL centres worldwide.
